Exciting Changes Are Coming to Kendal Museum!
Kendal Museum will be temporarily closed from Thursday 2nd October to Thursday 6th November 2025 for essential refurbishment and redevelopment works.
We’re taking this time to refresh our spaces, improve accessibility, and bring back some of the most beloved exhibits in the museum’s history — ready to inspire a whole new generation of visitors.
What to Expect…
The Lake District Natural History Gallery Returns Home
We’re thrilled to announce the long-awaited return of the Lake District Natural History Gallery — a breathtaking showcase of the region’s wildlife and natural beauty.
Featuring stunning dioramas and century-old specimens — including golden eagles, otters, and ospreys — the gallery will once again take pride of place in its original upstairs location.
After a successful loan at Brockhole on Windermere, these treasured displays are coming home, lovingly restored and reimagined for today’s visitors.

A New Home for the People’s Gallery
As part of our redevelopment, the People’s Gallery will be moving to the museum’s main entrance.
This exciting relocation will shine a brighter light on the incredible creativity of local artists, community groups, and collectives, welcoming every visitor with colour, talent, and inspiration the moment they walk through the door.
