Temporary Closure for Refurbishment: 2 Oct – 6 Nov 2025
Kendal Museum will be closed from 2nd October to 6th November 2025 for urgent refurbishment and redevelopment.
We're excited to announce the return of the Lake District Natural History Gallery - featuring stunning dioramas and century-old specimens including golden eagles, otters, and ospreys - back from its loan at Brockhole on Windermere. The exhibition will be reinstalled in its original upstairs gallery.
We're also relocating the People’s Gallery to the museum’s main entrance, giving greater visibility to the incredible work of local artists and collectives.
These upgrades are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the visitor experience. We look forward to welcoming you back in November!
**Please note that our Egyptology in Kendal Lunchtime Talk has now been rescheduled. For further information, please see our What's On page.**

What Our Visitors Think
An absolutely fabulous visit [...] The staff were really friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the variety of exhibits, including crystals, bicycles, a bear (and many other creatures), a self-pouring teapot, and a rock-xylophone which my partner enjoyed playing. An array of interesting things to see, plus a lovely café. 10/10.

Took my three grandchildren today, Good Friday, to the museum for the Easter egg hunt event. What a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, such a marvelous place packed full of history and hands on fun, what a great way to learn. Thank you.

Had an absolutely wonderful time. The exhibitions were amazing [...] The World Wildlife Galley was so interesting, the museum has done a spectacular job of making thoughtful displays of the artefacts. The staff were lovely, so informative and helpful.
